The scene is set outside the torn up looking gym of Robert “Badger” Garland. It's very early in the morning, as the sun is just starting to rise, an expensive looking car pulling up to the gym and being parked neatly. An easily recognizable man, dressed in an expensive looking suit, makes his way out of the car and locks the door behind him before heading towards the door leading inside the gym. A wise smile can be seen across his face, but his expression seems to change to one of concern as he moves closer to the entrance way and hears a loud and rhythmic banging noise continuously coming from the inside.
Cautiously, the man makes his way inside, the noise getting louder and louder as he proceeds to the main room. Looking around, the man sees another familiar face, Robert Garland slamming his first into the already bent up lockers, over and over again. The man just stands an watches, Garland looking like he hasn't slept all night as the hits continue in succession. Sounding concerned, the man calls out to the other, Travis Rech looking to console his client as Robert Garland repeats the same sentence he had said the night before...
Robert Garland – You know... *BANG* Sometimes I don’t even understand all of this myself. *BANG*
Rech remains standing near the door, Garland's knuckles looking bloodied from where he's standing as if he's been at this for hours. Looking around the room, Rech notices a scary sight as his eyes land on one of the nearby tables. The bag from before is still knocked over, the contents visible to Rech who angrily moves in on it before picking up the contents and, for once, yelling at his friend.
Travis Rech - AH WILL NOT ALLOW THIS ANYMORE!
Garland continues to hit the lockers, Rech now in a position to see the blood from Garland's knuckles almost painting the spots on the lockers where he's been hitting. Rech's face looks unusually encased in a scowl, his gaze locked on Garland as his mouth remains dry of things to say. Garland seems to be completely ignoring him and continuing his mindless and self-imposed task. His fists once again hitting the locker with a loud thud before Rech yells again.
Travis Rech - AH SPEND ALL OF MAH TIME AN' EFFORT ON YA, DAY IN AN' DAY OUT! AN' NOW, WE'VE COME THIS CLOSE TA OUR REVENGE AN' AH FIND YA WITH HEROIN!? ARE YA EVEN THINKIN' RIGHT NOW?! REMEMBER MSW'S WELLNESS POLICY?! WELL, KISS THAT PLACE GOODBYE!
Robert Garland - I didn't use it...
Travis Rech - AN' THA WHOLE THING WITH GETTIN' BACK AT FRANK!? THAT'S DONE, AFTER THEY HEAR ABOUT THIS! YA THOUGHT NO ONE BELIEVED YA BEFORE? WELL, WHAT WILL THEY THINK NOW?!
Robert Garland - I told you... I didn't use it...
Travis Rech - ARE YA LOOKIN' TA GO BACK TO PRISON!? DO YA JUST WANNA LOSE EVERYTHIN'!? AH SWEAR -
Robert Garland - I DIDN'T... USE IT!...
The room once again goes completely silent, Garland not even continuing to hit the lockers as Rech looks on. Rech is waiting for Garland to explain himself, Garland just resting his hands on the lockers and pressing his forehead into them. While Rech continues to wait, Garland finally turns to face him. Garland's face is red, his eyes looking dry as it seems tears are rolling down his face and have been for a long while. Rech is in shock, Garland taking over the conversation after wiping his nose on his sleeve.
Robert Garland - It's true... I bought the stuff, but I never used it. In fact, I was this close to plungin' that needle deep into my veins... I just couldn't go through with it. I wound up just wastin' money, because after boilin' the drugs I just poured everythin' onto the ground outside... I just needed an out... For only a few hours, I just needed a break from this terrifying reality!
Rech remains quiet, Garland showing his arm to prove his claims while Rech sees no visible track marks. Rech looks like he wants to sigh in relief, but stays caught up in Garland's words as Robert Garland continues with his monologue.
Robert Garland - I saw them again... Those hallucinations in my head just comin' out to remind me of how much I've lost. This time? Our old trainee, "Mr. TNT" Timothy Nelson Tyson. You remember the last time I thought about him, right? I wound up burnin' part of this place down in a drunken rage and got sent right to prison for that terrible and long year. These visions of the past are just surfacin' as my mind tries to reassure me that I'm makin' the right decisions out there...
Tag teammin' with Frank Washington left me in such a confused state... I got my revenge, right? I watched him get beaten down for the entire length of that match and even tricked him to call out for help! I could have left it all at that and left, but somethin' made me pull him over the opponent for the cover... Was it that I didn't want to lose? Was it that I wanted to continue this partnership to watch future beatings? Or, do I still have some sort of soft spot for that asshole?
You know... Every time I see him, talkin' to the fans, actin' like he's their savior... It not only pisses me off that they believe his lies... But, it reminds me of everythin' I've lost in tryin' to pull him out and into the truth! I've lost those fickle fans, I've lost the respect of my old friends... And to add to that, I'm still missing my ex-fiance, my old tag team partners... And even "Mr. TNT." Thinkin' about this just makes me realize somethin' very important Rech...
What do I have to show for all that I've left behind? NOTHIN'! And Frank? What does he get out of all of this?! Well, I'll tell you Rech! Frank's not only got the joy of watchin' me suffer, but he's got the joy of a woman of his own! He's got the joy of havin' more than one friend at his back, even though he's just waitin' to stab them in their own... He's got the joy of walkin' around... As one of the richest men in the world. Meanwhile, I can barely afford to throw my money away, thanks to constantly repairin' this hell hole and not being able to bring in any customers to train as everyone out there sees me as a lunatic! What is this Rech?! WHAT KIND OF JUSTICE IS THIS!?
Garland once again beats the lockers behind him, but this time much quicker and much more violently. Rech is still stunned by Garland's words, Garland slowly coming to a stop while Rech continuously looks on. Once again, Garland can be seen crying, at first only a little, but over a short period of time the tears just won't stop. Garland spits on the floor, constantly wiping his face while squeaking one last sentence out...
Robert Garland- ...He was supposed to be my friend.
With that, Rech finally moves in to console Garland, Garland hugging his manager while Rech tries to tell him that everything will be alright. With both men now wondering what happens next, the scene comes to a slow close...
