the screen opens with a buzz of fuzzy grey lines that dance across the screen. amongst the disturbance will flicker with occasional grainy footage - it is presumable this is from some old, worn out video tape due to the warped audio. if you concentrate long enough you can tell occasionally what's being said.
"And this is fantastic wrestling here toni... We've been treated to a real bout here, as we always do in British Championship Wre...it really is a treat. Here in a packed out Liverpool Empire Theatre we have two men giving....weat, tears and guts for these fans. And their showing their appreciation..."
the screen once again descends into full on disturbance. however, after a brief second a more clear image of a man appears. he is scruffy in appearance. both the hair on his head and his chin are unkempt. there is a focused, almost deranged even, look in his eyes as he stares right into the lens of the camera. the screen fuzzes once more. an image is now clear. its of an old wrestling match. one of the wrestlers goes for a big elbow drop and covers the opponent for the pin. he gets the three count and a polite ripple of applause rings around the crowd.
"The referee has stopped this bout at fifteen minutes and thirty five seconds - your winner, and still British Championship Wrestling World Champion. Please show your respect for Jonathan 'The Welsh Dragon' Thomas!"
through the fuzz and flickering images a clear image of a much older looking wrestler celebrating in the ring, applauding the crowd for their respect and lifting up his belt. the screen now gets more intense with the interference. the previous image now comes back, much more clearer as the fuzz dies down. this footage is clearly of low quality - being filmed on some cheap hand-cam. he is stood to what most people would just see as some back alley, but to the more eagle eyed it would be recognisable as the area behind the Missouri Theater at the Missouri University. the whole thing seems very shoddily prepared and very low budget.
"So, I've been told to introduce myself. I've been made aware that I need to make a statement. I need to speak to the fans who want to know why they need to buy tickets to see me. I need to speak to the guys in the back who book the shows and need to know where I need to get placed on the card. I even need to speak to potential opponents taking an interest in your future competition and what he has to say for himself.
"Lets cut to the chase. This is a new company. Everyone here is a 'new' talent. At the moment there is so much generic rubbish being spouted out by the same generic people in the same generic locations using the same generic 'key' words. You know the types. 'I'm the biggest thing here'. 'Everyone best be scared of me'. 'I'm going to beat you all even though I haven't bothered checking who anyone is around here'. There's so much crap coming out of the MSW that the Missouri council is looking to put an extra outflow sewage pipe to the arena. Words at this stage when you got nothing to show to back it up mean nothing.
However, by the by - if they want me to talk then I'll talk. My name is Dylan Thomas. I'm not much to look at compared to most of the other guys around here. I've not got some great big character that stands out like most of the other guys around here. I've not got any fancy moves in my arsenal like most of the guys around here.
Okay, I may not exactly be selling myself from the outset here - but let me emphasise one thing. I'm not like most of the guys around here.
What I'm offering MSW is an alternative. Something different. I revel in not being like ninety nine per cent of the other roster. I look at what everyone does either inside or outside this ring and I do the opposite. Why try and beat everyone else at their own game when you can be the master of your own field? Sure, I get critiqued for the way I go about things. I've been not given the chances that less deserving people around me have received due to my style. However, with every time I've been knocked down I'll get back up again because that's who I am.
I could stand here and tell you I'm the best in this company. I know I am, but I'm not going to waste my breath on speech telling you this. I'd rather use that energy in the ring. I could stand here and tell you that I will be MSW World Champion. I won't insult your intelligence by trying to convince you that I will by simply talking. However, I can be sure when you first see me in that ring you'll say that for yourself. You will look at me and you will say 'He's the best guy in this company - he could be the world champion'. I put words in peoples mouths with my in-ring work, not with delusional speak like everyone else seems hell bent on doing.
I'm keeping this short. This is a preview. This is a sneak peak.
My name is Dylan Thomas.
See you around
