It didn’t take long after taking a crucifix powerbomb off the stage to the concrete floor for Duke Andrews to be seen by the MSW medical staff. His back crushed on the concrete, but it wasn’t the first time something like that had happened. Not since coming to MSW, and getting tangled with The Capital Crew, had Duke felt 100%. His body constantly been beaten and battered week after week. It wasn’t always the greatest, it was never fun, but it was what had to be done.
Since coming to Missouri State Wrestling, Duke Andrews had been trying to find that spot where the rules weren’t always bent in favor of one person or the other. It could have been easy if he just ‘toed the company line’ when he was going after Isaac Cornelius III, Tommy Montanta and their attorney. It would have been easy if he just stayed in place and never got messed up with The Capital Crew. But that wasn’t what drew Duke Andrews to MSW.
Instead, he came to MSW with the intention on making it to the top, and constantly he was being pushed to the side. Whether it was the rules being twisted and forcing an official to break the rules, to not stepping back when Barrel warned him of what would happen if he didn’t step back.
After Unstoppable 23, Duke was warned he needed to step away from the ring for a while. Busted ribs, and a busted back wasn’t going to make competing in the ring any fun. But Duke wasn’t listening to the staff. He got his match against Theo and was going to get his retribution for being tossed over the edge of the stage.
“Listen, I understand what was done. I know what you were faced with.”
Duke’s words were heard as he held his phone to his ear. Sitting comfortably in his home in Grand Rapids.
“I told you, it’s all good. Let’s just refocus and get back on with it at the next show.”
With that Duke pulled the phone away and ended the call. Turning his attention away from the phone into a camera he had positioned in front of him.
“Last week we were outsmarted. I get that. I get what happened and if anyone thinks that a wedge was driven between CM, Javen and myself, you’re completely wrong. But where do we go from here?”
A simple shrug of the shoulders from Duke. His feet were propped up in front of him, wearing a black t-shirt with the MSW yellow logo on the front.
“That’s why Theo, you’re getting in the ring this week with me. You’re going to see that you didn’t break Duke Andrews like you had hoped. You didn’t bust me like you wanted. And you didn’t leave me for dead like you thought. Nah, what you did is piss me off. You threw me off the stage wanting to leave me there, broken, battered, left for dead. But that’s not what you got Theo. You and your little ‘crew’ of wannabe thugs have been coming after me since day one. And come Unstoppable 24, that’s where that ends.”
Duke runs his hand down over his beard, pausing slightly.
“Welcome to MSW Theo. Finally, you’re going to be faced with the scenario in which you’re not doing to be able to sneak up from behind to get your way. You’re going to be trapped inside that twenty by twenty square with nowhere to hide. But I’m expecting you to come at me in that ring. I’m expecting you to come down and try to show the rest of the company what you’re all about. How you can hold your own inside the ring, but I also know, that somewhere deep down, while you’re on your little trip to Cuba, you’re plotting a way to make sure you have the upper hand.”
Duke shakes his head.
“That’s where my experience comes into play Theo. You’re not the only kid I’ve faced before that has been in your shoes. You’re trying to show yourself to Barrel and Cocheese like you’re the baddest mother fucker around. So when it starts getting hairy in that ring, when things start to turn and not in your favor, I know you’re going to want to have everyone come down. Trying to play that mind game. It doesn’t work Theo. It won’t work. So be a man for once. Not only step into that ring one on one, but do it where there is no back up coming down to save your ass from the beating you’re going to get. No one comes down to back you.”
Duke briefly pauses.
“But since I know you’re not the man you claim to be, I know that you’ll never agree to that. So let me just warn you, once I take you out. I’m moving back up the ladder and taking the rest of the crew out. That’s Barrel and that’s Cocheese. So do me a favor, you tell them that once you drop the ball, you’ll be taking back off to hide in Cuba, while you’re running away, tell them that I’m coming for them. Tell them that the last couple of months haven’t been the way the ship is turning, and their time at the top, it’s coming to an end.”
