Jorge Santos: The United States of America, Estados Unidos de América; The Land of Opportunity, a place where your dreams come true if you put forth enough effort. It’s time for me to chase my American Dream.
As the scene opens up Jorge Santos can be seen standing wearing tan khakis, a white formal shirt, tan blazer and his luchadore mask. It was a warm day in San Diego, California, the sandy beaches and Pacific Ocean could be seen behind him as Jorge Santos smiled to himself behind his mask.
Jorge Santos: Today is my first day in America. I got my work visa approved this morning and I drove across the border from sunny Tijuana. I’ve wrestled across all of Mexico these last few years following in the footsteps of mi familia, my uncle and my father who came before me. As big as lucha libre is in Mexico it’s hard to separate yourself and stand out of the long shadows cast of those who came before you. You’re always compared to your family who came before you, it can become near impossible to truly definite your own legacy.
Jorge Santos pauses as he looks down for a moment and then turns around to look out towards the beaches and the sea as well as the city scape of San Diego.
Jorge Santos: I could have stayed in Tijuana and made a comfortable living wrestling and working on my father’s ranch. It would’ve been easy to stay within my comfort zone and make a modest living but my father sat me down and gave me some wise advice: He told me “son, if you want to make a name for yourself go to America. Here in Mexico you will always be known as el hijo de *censored due to Mexican copyright*, you will always be compared to me and your grandfather. Go to America and live the American Dream, make a better living than either of us could ever make in Mexico, pursue a better life.”
Jorge pauses as he turns back to the camera with a sense of purpose.
Jorge Santos: I am Jorge Santos of Tijuana, I wear this mask to honor mi familia’s legacy. From here on out I am stepping out of the shadow of my father. A new country and a fresh start where everything is possible; the sky’s the limit. So long as I give it my all in that ring for the great fans who pay to see us compete I know that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to and when Danny Stevenson gave me the opportunity? It was then that I knew that this was the great big break that I was looking for. I’m coming to Missouri State Wrestling; I am the New American Dream.
