”You can't cut a promo in six seconds!”
Daniel Smart is standing on the roof of an apartment building in downtown Chicago, looking indignant as his friend, a slightly overweight man with long brown hair and an ungroomed beard is shooting him with an iPhone.
You sure about that? I think my idea is brilliant! Daniel Smart, the Vine wrestling superstar! Your promos are guaranteed to go viral!”
”Tyler, you can't say anything in six seconds! I could maybe fit in a catchphrase, but I don't even have one! Just shoot a regular video and upload it to Youtube, that's the way I roll.”
”Whatever you want. I guess I'm ahead of my time.”
Daniel rolls his eyes as Tyler gets his phone ready. Once Tyler points the phone at him, Daniel gets serious as he starts talking.
”Two down, three to go. That's the way it was supposed to be, anyway. After beating Robert Garland in the tournament qualifiers, I thought I had dealt with the toughest challenge I would have in the tournament. At the last Unstoppable, after having to be aware of interference from Robert Garland and still beating Jackal, I thought that surely I had dealt with my toughest challenge, now. But it was not to be, because not only do I have to wrestle two matches in one night... one of them is a triple threat.”
A small grin appears on Daniel's face.
”But this is not sour grapes. I'm not here to complain. On the contrary, I welcome the challenge. I came to Missouri State Wrestling to compete. I came here to test my limits, to find out just how good I can be. So far I have beaten two men, but I'm not gonna lie, both matches involved interference and rulebreaking. My wins have been controversial, but when I beat not one, not two, but three men in one night... well, there will be nothing controversial about that.”
The wind starts getting stronger, Daniel's hair blowing in the breeze as he keeps going.
”I don't know who I'll be facing in my second match, so I'm going to concentrate on the first one. A triple threat with Leo Banks and Matt Ward. Let me start with Leo. Rich kid from Silicon Valley. A spoiled brat who can get anything he wants simply by asking mommy and daddy. A man who has never had to work for anything in his entire life. I've got news for you, Leo, your parents can't buy your way through this tournament. I'm not going to pretend to be poor, but everything I own, everything I have I worked my ass off to earn! I've sweat to get where I am now, I've spilled tears when I thought I would fail and I'm damn sure willing to bleed to advance to the finals! Guts and experience are things money can't buy, and if you're not willing to put the work in, you're not going to beat me.”
Having gotten agitated, Daniel takes a moment to cool off before getting back to talking.
”As for Matt Ward... I've heard about you. The Second City Demon. The Windy City Nightmare. A sick, twisted man who thrives in extreme environments. I've heard the talk about you around town. Most don't like you. Some are scared of you. Everyone agrees that you're not exactly a good ambassador for this great city. After Robert Garland and Jackal, I think I'm getting used to beating up psychopaths. At Unstoppable one Chicago boy is going to move on, and I guarantee it won't be you.”
Daniel lifts up his right leg and pats his knee with his hand.
”My patented Knee-DS has put down two men so far. Robert Garland and Jackal have already felt my knee buried deep into their skull. Before this tournament, more people are going to join that list of victims. Which one of you will it be this time? Do I feel like ruining the face of the rich pretty boy, or do I make the nogging of a psycho even uglier than it already is? I guess we'll have to wait until Unstoppable to find out. Until then... peace!”
Daniel throws up the peace sign and flashes a cheesy smile. Tyler makes sure to quickly turn the recording off.
”That's lame, bro! You could've gone with my Vine idea, and instead you throw up a hippie hand gesture? You're never gonna become a big star like this.”
Scratching his chin, Daniel spends a moment in deep thought.
”Fine. Let's do a Vine.”
”What?”
”Pull up the damn app already.”
Tyler hurries to turn on the Vine app before Daniel can change his mind. After a moment, Tyler gives Daniel the signal to begin.
”Matt Ward. Leo Banks. I've got a knee for each of you, and at Unstoppable you're both gonna get one!”
Daniel quickly walks off, leaving Tyler to upload the Vine, a pleased grin on his face.
