I can no longer stand wrestling on television; save for NXT. When it comes to RAW, SmackDown! or Impact, it seems like no one really knows how to write lines that suit a gimmick. Triple H's overuse of "Plan B" is pissing me off. It's on the level of Vickie Guerrero's "Excuse me"; or worse, the babyfaces that say the fans in the city of the show are great. My issue with it is how cheap it is.
Writer: "Hey Paul, we have John Cena facing Roman Reigns in the main event tonight. What do you want to do as a finish?"
Triple H: "Have Kane interfere."
Writer: "We did that last week."
Triple H: Oh, uh... have Orton interfere to make John win the match."
Writer: "We did that two weeks ago."
Triple H: "Alright, have Rollins, Orton and Kane run in and fuck the whole match up. And I swear if you say we've done it before you are fired."
Writer: "I would never sir! Thank you very much! Sorry to disturb you!"
Is it really that hard to come up with a different way to progress the story? I think my least favourite is Gunner in TNA. Every time I see a segment with him it makes me mad. Someone says something that he doesn't agree with and he brings up war stories. Alright, cool you were in the army. And while I am Canadian and you weren't necessarily fighting for my country I respect what you did. I know that there is a super power a couple hours drive away from me that really appreciates your service. However, using the "I was in the army" card to me seems cheap. They've overused it to a point where it sounds like he is guilt tripping people into doing what he wants. That's not cool.
I watched the segment with Sam Shaw, Gunner, Christy Hemme and Neo- uh, I mean Mr. Anderson from the July 3rd Impact. Basically, Gunner is walking with Shaw and tells him he has to apologize and make amends for stalking Hemme. Shaw says he will. So far so good. Mr. Anderson walks in and is hostile to Shaw. Gunner starts the next sentence with "You out of all people know..." immediately I think I know exactly how he is going to finish that sentence. "You out of all people know about second chances. When you left Aces & Eights the fans gave you a second chance and welcomed you back with open arms. They didn't care about your past, they accepted you back immediately." Well that's not what he says. He say Anderson knows his stories. I'm sorry Gunner, you had a fantastic place to go with that, some where that really puts Anderson back in his place. You could have shut down Anderson, and make him think about what he is doing, and what he has done. Instead you guilt trip him into believing you. Sure, it's good that you are bringing awareness about PTSD and the effects of war, but you had a better place to go with it and you fucked it up. This is why I can't stand television wrestling. The writers are shit. You could through the people who write Unstoppable into TNA and there would be a better product. The reason is these people actually seem to get it! Instead they have a bunch of fucktards led by Russo and Hemme writing shows. I'm sorry, but that doesn't cut it. When it comes to the black mafia in King, MVP, and Lashley I don't buy it. I don't see Lashley as a legit champion. I think EY did a much better job at it. When you see him really go you know that he isn't the goofball that jobs every week. He isn't a fan out of the Milan crowd that gets his shot to wrestle in WWE. He can really go.
NXT seems to be a lot better. While they are a WWE product, it almost seems like they are an indy promotion. Maybe its because they are a developmental and each person is trying so hard to make it to RAW, but it looks like a wrestling show. One of the things I like about it is the venue size. It's not an arena like RAW or SmackDown. That's one of the things I hated about ECW. I got they wanted to make a bunch more money by having an arena's capacity, but that's not what ECW was. They never sold out the ACC or MSG. They were selling out smaller venues. It makes it easier to connect with the wrestlers. Each fan actually feels like they matter, as opposed to being one in fifty thousand. That's what I like about Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. They have -in my opinion- better camera work than the WWE. They are an indy that has a local television deal and puts shows online. They have a bunch of wrestlers, not entertainers. People stay for a few storylines and a whole lot of quality wrestling. Scorpio Sky (aka the bald black guy from Bryan and Kane's anger management class) and Ryan Taylor are really quality wrestlers. Taylor grew out his beard and his face doesn't look so weird anymore, and he should be in the main event. He should have an anti-authority gimmick like the rest of his stable, instead his nickname is Cryin' Ryan. That gimmick is the only flaw in watching the show... well, that and Othello -a seven foot black guy that can't wrestle, just terrible.
The point is, there are a lot of indies out there doing storylines the right way. There is a lot of talented people, and some of them are writing in Efeds. So what is so different when it comes to a bigger promotion like TNA or WWE. How is the ball being dropped so damn hard in TNA specifically? They have the financial backing to hire a real wrestling booker and writers. They have the ability to find someone that is better than Vince Russo to hire as a consultant, so why have they settled for mediocrity?
Anyway, this is just my rant about global wrestling companies and their shitty writing. Let the fight begin in the comments that follow this. Maybe next time I'll explain why I hate Neo -fuck, Mr. Anderson so damn much.
