Fresh off his flight to San Francisco, Chris Williams is arriving at a public MSW signing event, just south of the Golden Gate Arena. He wasn’t scheduled to attend this specific night, but the thought of missing out when he was already in the city just made no sense. Williams could quickly tell why he wasn’t scheduled for this day in particular, as he couldn’t spot a single friendly face amongst the attendees. Looks like Capital Crew was the big focus of the day, as Williams spots Frankie Cocheese with Barrel at one of the signing tables. Thankfully Chris opted for sunglasses and a hat, and with everyone focused on the competitors at the tables, he is able to shuffle around the back of the crowd unnoticed. He speaks aloud to himself as he shuffles away from the crowd
Chris Williams: Heh, say what you want about IC3, but the guy at least keeps a smart schedule of events. No fireworks going off for free on his watch…
IC3 also made sure to keep a moderate setup, not opting for the crazy big and flashy. Keeping it outdoors, the event was easy to maneuver around the crowd and head toward a roped off “Staff Only” section. He passes by the ropes, and is nearly immediately stopped by Charles Matias, who takes a moment to recognize him.
Charles Matias: Sir, this area is for - Oh! Chris Williams, didn’t notice it was you! Why are you here today? Pretty sure you’re scheduled later in the week!
Chris Williams: Hey Charles, yeah. I booked an early flight, figured I’d get used to the area and the setup as soon as I could. Plus, I was actually just kinda curious how IC3 booked the events for the week. Sure enough, he’s keeping us apart as long as possible! Probably smart, considering the fact that Tommy and Frankie aren’t exactly known to play by the rules… especially after what Frankie did on Unstoppable. Just goes to show how important this title is to some of the people in the locker room.
Charles Matias: It was pretty unbelievable. But what do you mean when you say some people? Does that not include you?
Chris Williams: Ah come on, man… this is starting to sound like an interview. Listen, I’ve already said why I’m here, you’ve heard it before. I’m here to stay on the right path toward getting better, inside and out. I’m here for me, and nobody and nothing else.
Does that mean I’m gonna let an opportunity like this pass by? Absolutely not. If anything, winning this title will push me even harder to be the RIGHT kind of champion, the one our fans have been wanting. The one they can root for, and I fully intend to follow through with it.
Charles Matias: Of course it’s sounding like an interview, Chris… that’s my job! But you’re right, I’ve asked you these questions before, and you’ve answered them before. How am I supposed to push the envelope and ask the hard questions when they've all been done?
Chris Williams: I don’t know, Charles… maybe your job isn’t so hard, after all? I’m not saying it’s eas-
Charles Matias: MY JOB IS NOT EASY, CHRIS WILLIAMS! You don’t understand how hard it is to ALWAYS have to ask the HARD questions, it’s NOT EASY!
Charles nearly begins to break down right there in front of Williams. The pressure of an event-packed week leading up to WAR has clearly gotten to him. After all, this pay-per-view is almost two years in the making, so Charles more than likely is feeling the heat to ensure this week goes off without a hitch. Charles takes a minute to compose himself, before suddenly having an epiphany.
Charles Matias: Chris, you actually have a lot more experience with Frankie Cocheese than many people, maybe ANY people, in all of MSW. Tell us a little about that.
Chris Williams: Yeah… Frankie and I have known each other for awhile now. We both were competitors in Immortal Pro Wrestling, a federation based right here in California, actually. I actually was signed before the first show and participated that opening night. That’s not to say that Frankie didn’t have the talent to be there from the beginning, but he joined up soon after, around the third or fourth show I think. That was about four years ago now, I think. We tangled a few times, even teamed up once to be honest… might have been one of the reasons we were able to deal with the Shades, had some idea of what to expect with him.
Charles Matias: Four years, wow! Obviously you had stepped away from wrestling in that time, but I’d imagine that Frankie Cocheese is a bit different now than he was before?
Chris Williams: Ah, yes and no. At that point, Frankie had been around the block before, but hadn’t quite made it big. He was wrestling for 10, maybe 12 years before joining Immortal Pro, but something there clicked. Hell, the federation closed with Frankie standing alone atop a triple cage as champion. He was a fierce competitor with a hell of a mouth back then. The man could talk his way out of anything, but had the ability to back it up. I’m sure he still does, just uses intimidation tactics instead now. He definitely became more of a hardened thug than the guy I knew in IPW. It doesn’t really matter come Saturday, because I need to beat the hardened thug, and I intend to.
Charles Matias: Of course. What do you mean when you say “had a mouth”? You all are paid to interview, do media assignments, et cetera… why was he different?
Chris Williams: He just had a way with words. He spent most of his time on camera rapping back then, and damn was he good. Might have even been able to make a career out of it, who knows. Frankie could amaze you, daze you, could confuse you and lose you, if you catch my drift.
Charles Matias: Chris… did you just rhyme? Was that intentional?
Chris Williams: It was Charles. In fact, I was thinking about it on my flight, and I realized that I hadn’t heard a rap out of Frankie in a long time. Who knows, maybe he was rapping while I was away, but I damn sure hadn’t heard one in a long time. Now, I’m being honest… I’m not a big fan of the genre in general, it’s just not my cup of tea. But Frankie had a way that got past that, so I got to thinking… Maybe it’s time.
Charles Matias: Time for what?
Chris Williams:
My time.
Season One of MSW, it was my time then.
Season Two of MSW, it’ll be my time again.
I started out as the MSW Pure 15 Champ,
Back when it was a trophy.
I sit here in Season Two,
And everyone acts like they know me.
They don’t know where I’ve been,
No idea what I can do
You all need to sit back and let me work
Because I’m about to amaze you.
My story started as a kid in the burbs,
Just a dream to wrestle around the world.
I fulfilled that dream, it came true
I became a champion, but I couldn’t follow through.
I sat there as a champ, smiling,
But inside of me was a war.
I’m not sure how it happened,
I’d never seen that darkness before.
You may think I’m a joke,
But don't mistake me for a clown.
I’ve battled my share of demons,
And they nearly dragged me down.
Now I try to stay the course
But I’m afraid I’ll veer down the dark road.
If I do, I might not come back
So I’ll try my damnedest to keep hold.
But let’s get back to present day,
I’ve got a match to win.
Surrounded by new enemies,
A bitter fight to the end.
Tommy Angel, the hand-picked punk.
He sits there with his title,
But he’s nothing but a chump.
He thinks that he's untouchable,
But I’ve got other plans.
Angel’s gonna get knocked out
And then the real shit will hit the fan.
Because that takes me to Frankie,
A man that hasn’t earned this shot.
You pulled some shady crap last week,
And now you get a spot.
Put all that crap aside though,
Because it don’t mean a thing.
Because even this rap don’t spit fire,
I make poetry in the ring.
Frankie can say what he wants,
I’ve seen it all before.
He’s readying himself for a fight,
But I’m the one ending this War.
Don’t you plan on putting this fire out,
I won’t sit like a pile of embers.
If I go down, it’ll be in a blaze,
And you damn well will remember.
Bringing it back,
I won’t let that happen.
I will stand victorious,
While you both lay down napping.
Now I know deep down you’re both slick,
Like a couple of Ice Road Truckers.
I know we will steal the show,
We will blow the roof off this motherfucker.
Now this rap from Chris Williams
May have been too much for you to comprehend.
So allow me to speak slowly,
And make it clear for you two men.
Come War, I will be the MSW World Heavyweight Champion.
THE END.
