Chris Williams sits alone in his hotel room tonight, peering into the bright screen of his laptop. Tonight would probably be the last fully relaxing day he would have, as tomorrow begins the 3 day WAR event slate that IC3 had planned out for the entire staff. Meet and greets, interviews, signings, photos, you name it… IC3 went all out for his first Supercard. So tonight, it’s a night in to himself, complete with Chinese takeout within arms reach. He’s tuned into a live podcast of a local San Franciscan wrestling reporting outlet. They are in the middle of analyzing the main event of WAR, the MSW Heavyweight Championship Match between Williams, Tommy Montana, and Frankie Cocheese.
Steven Dwyer: So you’ve got three men in this match that come from VERY different backgrounds, and currently lead very different lives heading into Saturday. You’ve got Tommy Ange-
Jennifer Norton: Tommy Montana.
Steven Dwyer: Tommy Montana, thank you… The de facto face of First Class. The man that seemingly had everything handed to him over the past few months, and just dropped a proverbial BOMB in his latest exclusive. A new identity, a new edge, a different side of him that we’ve never seen before. This Tommy is a man that has much more to lose, and much more to prove than ever. It’s that side of him that I think gives him the edge at WAR. He’s more unpredictable, and he’s still got the full support of IC3 and First Class behind him. In a no-DQ situation such as this, it gives him a HUGE advantage. Tommy Montana is my pick, all the way.
Jennifer Norton: I agree, it’s a definite advantage for him, but Frankie Cocheese has the same advantage with the power of the Capital Crew in his corner. Barrel may only be one man against all of First Class, but he is a man that has run roughshod over the entire roster, and Frankie Cocheese has been in this business over 15 years. Frankie will also go to ANY lengths to win this championship, as evident by his actions at Unstoppable. It is a wonder how he isn’t already facing charges, but in less than three days I think Frankie Cocheese and Capital Crew will not only be our MSW World Heavyweight Champion, but I’ll take it one further and double down with Barrel as our Pure 15 Champion as well. Nobody has stepped up to stop Capital Crew, and I don’t think it begins at WAR.
Danny Stampford: I couldn’t have said that better myself. Cocheese all the way.
Eric Belson: Yep, Cocheese. Capital Crew is about to take over MSW, and I think that is a real concern for IC3 and First Class. If it happens, I wonder how they will respond.
Tammy Brooks: As much as I hate it, I still think Tommy retains here. Over his life, the man has been put through hell and has kept it hidden. After finally shedding that old skin, this reborn Tommy is going to be too much for Cocheese to handle.
Chris smirks and shakes his head, as these types of conversations have been the status quo over the past week or so. Not even passing mention of Williams. And then…
Jennifer Norton: So what about Chris Williams? Do we think he factors into this at all? He spoke some pretty big words recently, does anyone think he will back it up and follow through?
Steven Dwyer: Williams could always talk a big game, but he’s not gonna change the outcome. Both Tommy and Cocheese are going to have metaphorical and literal support coming to their aid, and Williams’ corner is empty. His head isn’t in the game, Williams has even gone on record and admitted it. But if his head isn’t in the game, and his body has always been barely hanging on by a thread… This Saturday could be a mercy kill for him. Call it a hot take if you want… Williams not only won’t be a factor in the title match, but he will be taken out of commission within the first 10 minutes, and WAR will be the LAST time that we see Chris Williams competing in the ring.
Eric Belson: Wow, that is a hell of a hot take if I ever heard one. I don’t know if his career is going to come an end, but no… Williams won’t make an impact.
Tammy Brooks: In my heart, I’ll always root for Chris Williams. He’s the man that we all should be rooting for, because the other two men in the match don’t have much in the way of redeeming qualities. Williams has heart, he’s a decent man, and he always puts his body on the line so that the fans go home happy. But when it comes down to it, his body is what holds him back, he’s not going to hold up anymore. Will he have an impact in the match, yeah I think so. But I don’t think he gets the win, I still think Tommy Montana retains.
Chris grabs his phone and starts dialing.
Steven Dwyer: Alright, it’s time we take a few calls. This first one is from Chris, out of right here in San Francisco! Chris, what are your thoughts on the match?
Chris takes a deep breath and pauses for a moment. The silent tension is noticeable, but Williams knew he called for a reason. He had something important to say.
Chris Williams: I just wanted to point out a few facts here that most of the analysts seem to be missing. Just from size alone, Chris Williams is at a big advantage here… the man has over 6 inches and almost 30 pounds on both Tommy and Cocheese, that’s a fact. He may not have anyone in his corner, but he is coming into WAR with a man-sized chip on his shoulder due to talkshows and podcasts just like this. It seems like every single person is taking him for granted, and that is eating at him. Chris Williams already has stated his is willing to leave it all in the ring come WAR, yet it doesn’t seem to matter to you guys.
Steven Dwyer: Chris, sounds like you are absolutely going to be in the Williams fan-section at WAR. You said you were from San Francisco, right? Are you going to be at WAR on Saturday?
Chris Williams: Yeah, you could say that. Going back to focusing on him though, Williams is undefeated in Season Two right now, so it’s not like his body is just giving up on him. He has been able to earn his way to getting a shot at the MSW World Heavyweight Championship by overcoming every challenge and beating every opponent put in front of him so far. He has the height, weight, and reach advantage. And on top of that, he’s got more heart, and more willpower than both Montana and Cocheese combined. Chris Williams will walk out of the Golden Gate Arena as the MSW World Heavyweight Champion.
Tammy Brooks: Chris, you clearly feel strongly about this. How are you such a rabid fan of Chris Williams here in San Francisco, when he normally spends his time wrestling in Missouri?
Chris Williams: Well, let’s just say I’ve been following Chris Williams for a long time. I was there at his debut in the Cow Palace at IPW just down the road. I was there when he won the Unchained Championship, the only title that Cocheese was never able to hold in that federation. Heck, I was even there when Williams threw Matt Ward into the ring post and pinned Bradyn Saint to capture the Pure 15 Trophy.
Steven Dwyer: Chris, that’s all well and good that you are a fan, but you just don’t get it. Williams is simply - to use a phrase out of IC3’s book - OUTCLASSED here. Weight, height… even heart… doesn’t mean anything when Williams is going up against potentially 5 extra men that aren’t even in the match, and NONE of them are on his side! If you want to talk weight, he’s now going up against about 30 feet and what, give or take 1200 pounds? I know Williams has made a career out of being the underdog, but come on…. those odds are impossible to overcome. He is clearly outmatched here, and I stand by what I said. He’s DONE, Chris. Finished. Saturday night will be the last time we see him in the ring. And there’s nothing that some guy from San Francisco can say that can convince me otherwise.
Chris’ hands are shaking, as he has about hit his boiling point. Another deep breath, and he smirks to himself before putting his final words out into the world before the Supercard.
Chris Williams: I wasn’t always from San Francisco, Mr. Dwyer. For a very long time, I was in Detroit, working my way up the local wrestling ranks there. I eventually became good enough to travel the world doing what I loved, because long ago I made a promise to my late father. I promised him that I would become one of the greatest World Champions that this sport has ever seen. Most recently, I’ve been seen taking my talents to Missouri, and I’ve been lighting the ring on fire ever since my arrival.
That’s right Steven. Today, I am Chris from San Francisco… but you all might know me better as Chris Williams, from Detroit Michigan, and currently stomping mudholes out of everyone in MSW. And it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks will happen come WAR, because all of this is just talk. That’s what you get paid to do, I understand. You are paid to analyze and give your opinion, and I get it. But once I step between the ropes, none of it matters. It all just fades away. I’ve spent the last week soaking in as much as possible, and the only thing everyone seems to agree on is this: Chris Williams will not win. All I have to say about that is… Thank God these matches aren’t actually won on paper.
Frankie, Tommy… listen up, because this is the last thing I plan on saying to you before Saturday. We’ve all spent the last two weeks tearing each other down, pumping ourselves up, and claiming that each one of us is the ONLY one that could possibly win the MSW World Heavyweight Championship. I know myself personally, I’ve wanted both of you to remember my words, to remember each of your own history, and to remember that, amazingly, I’m actually a part of this match - as much as any analyst would try to convince you otherwise. And I expect that you both will remember every single word. But me? When Saturday comes around, I plan on forgetting it all. Once I step into the ring, your smack talk, your rap, your BS, even your name doesn’t matter anymore… so I’m going to flush it out, forget everything.
My only focus will be on knocking you both right the hell out. I will stand tall at the end of the night, and every single person in attendance will proudly be cheering my name. At WAR, I will become the MSW World Heavyweight Champion, and nothing you say will change that.
Because my actions will always speak louder than your words ever could.
And I will NEVER back down.
Chris hangs up the phone, and the last thing heard on the podcast is barely audible….
Steven Dwyer: I still think he’s gonna get his ass kicked.
THE END.
Steven Dwyer: So you’ve got three men in this match that come from VERY different backgrounds, and currently lead very different lives heading into Saturday. You’ve got Tommy Ange-
