“ ‘Williams has so much heart…. Williams has so much potential…. Williams never gives in….’ All that’s been repeated for my entire career is that I have so much to offer, so much to give for this sport. A guy like me seems more to be defined by his ‘almosts’ than his actual accomplishments. Last Unstoppable, I almost became a two-time Pure 15 champion. Almost.
Almost doesn’t mean a damn thing.”
Chris Williams is visibly disgusted by the thought of losing to Barrel over a week ago. He stands in his kitchen wearing a tank, still showing bruises and scrapes up and down his shoulders and arms from the match.
“Almost doesn’t win matches. Almost doesn’t win titles. Almost doesn’t go into the record books, or even pay the bills! Almost is worthless. So yeah, I almost beat Barrel. Who the hell cares? Barrel laid me out in the middle of that ring, and he didn’t even need any of the other cronies to do it. Hell, he didn’t even need his finisher!
Chris shakes his head, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to forget that match for a long time.
“And I’ve got no excuse for it. If I was a man that wanted to stand here and just sling some bullcrap about how I didn’t take Barrel seriously, then I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. The fact is that I take every match seriously. Every competitor in this fed is deserving of that respect. I wasn’t looking past Barrel, I was as focused as I’ve ever been. And I’m not gonna say he got lucky. There wasn’t a smidgeon of luck involved in that fight. He beat me, plain and simple. He was the better man that night.
It took me a long time to come to terms with that. Nearly choked out a staffer in our locker room after the match because he had the ‘audacity’ to suggest that I could still hold my head high, as nobody from our side got involved. I couldn't handle that at the time, and I just snapped. But now… now I’m at peace with it. I’m not gonna say I will sit here and enjoy losing, but Barrel was better than me at Unstoppable.
BUT…. That doesn’t make him better the next time out. I’ll take this, I’ll learn from it, and I’ll come out a bigger and better wrestler because of it. I doubt this is our last go-round, and I will make damn sure I get the best of him next time.”
Williams pours cereal into his cereal bowl, filling it with the usual filler that would seem to make the cereal bowl look more full, but it’s actually still not full or finished enough. Since it’s still lacking milk, he needs to fill the bowl with that kind of filler as well. Once he fills his cereal bowl with cereal and milk, the two best fillers to fill it with, he speaks again.
“Speaking of next time… at Unstoppable 25, dedicated to Frank Debauchee, Badger and I take on the team of Theo Vega and Frankie Cocheese. This will be the first time that I’ve stepped into the ring with Cocheese since War, and the first time I’ve ever been across the ropes from Theo Vega.
In Theo Vega, the so-called “Sin-City Slicer” we get a man who announced himself to the MSW Universe at War, immediately winning the Hardcore Championship. Winning that title… It’s no easy feat, considering we had former champions that could FREAKING FLY! Do you get how hard it is to pin a bird in mid-air??? Trust me, I’ve tried! He did a freaking barrel roll to kick out! Anyway, anyway… I have my homework to do on Vega, because very little is known about him. He’s a guy who’s spent a very long time working the indie scene, and now he’s here with Capital Crew, making an immediate impact. The dude is good, that much I know.
But I’m better. And the main reason I know that I truly am better? Better than Vega, better than Barrel… yeah I said it, one match doesn’t change that. And damn sure better than Frankie Cocheese. Why?
It’s because I show up every night and WORK. Vega and Cocheese have had ONE MATCH since War so far…. I haven’t taken a single night off yet. Look, I get it… Cocheese, you’re the champ, so you don’t need to wrestle every night. We all know it, you don’t need to give me that line, I just delivered it for you. But the fact is that you DON’T come out here and hone your craft - I do. A true champ wouldn’t hide behind his title so he wouldn’t need to fight, and that’s why I’m coming to take that belt off you.
I work day in and day out, never taking a night off to come out here and bust my ass. That’s why YOU are going to look sloppy, and I’m gonna stay crisp. Crisp… I’m sure you’ll have some comment about that too. Speaking of crisp, you still owe me “two stacks” from crashing into you with a plancha at War. Don’t worry, I’ll take it out of your ass at Unstoppable.
Almost doesn’t mean a damn thing.”
