I love the gritty nature of Garland. You succeed in giving that very intimidating air. He is one of the more complete characters in MSW currently. Also, I feel like he gets into some surreal situations (like the fast food dude).
Travis Rech is one of my favorite managers that I've seen. He's really enjoyable. You also do a good job of establishing the setting. It helps for visual readers, like I.
Keep up the nice work. I am hyped to see him progress here.

didnt read bet it sucks tho Seriously though, I agree with Von that Travis Rech is great. Inflections are really hard to use in writing, as they can easily become too hard to read and make reading dialogue annoying, but I think you use them to great effect. You put the voice of a stereotypical southern man in my head with Travis and Garland (even if I hear him as an exaggerated version of you  )
I'm looking forward to seeing your feud with Frank continue, I just hope I'm not in the middle of it again! |

I finally feel like I'm getting back into the groove of things and just posted another promo. This time I got my influence from those old backstage interviews from characters like Macho Man and Hulk Hogan. Classic WWF. Shifted this one towards an online interview to keep with modern times and I'd like to know what you guys think about it. Sucks as always, you should just retire already.
An interview is an oldie but a goodie, there's no reason to reinvent the wheel with every promo. What I like about the feud between Garland and Washington is that I can understand exactly why Garland hates Washington so much, to the point where I almost sympathize with him. I kinda wish Garland had done something really vile during this feud to solidify him as the heel, I can see why Badger would want revenge on Frank, changed man or not. The feud has been good, though, I look forward to seeing what happens at BotB!

The promo you just put out is the best one you have had at MSW. (Haven't seen your previous work so I can't comment on that). But anyways it was good and well paced, you have a good back and forth with Garland and Reich so that really helps. A manager is supposed to compliment your wrestler and not overtake him. When the manager overtakes it makes the promo weak in my eyes. But you played them perfectly together in this promo.
Should be a good match between you and Frank.

That development promo brought some depth to their feud. Wow, I actually gasped at it. Good job on adding that personal story to this. Now, there is more to this than what was there before.

Thanks for the feedback man! I'm glad you liked it, the thought to put that one together came to me on about and hour and half drive to my parents place. The whole story isn't really formed yet, but I've now finished the start of it and I like what it adds to the feud as well. I've also written my first promo for US#8 and it's up on the boards now too. If you have the time, I'd love to hear what you and any one else thinks about that piece. Well babycake [yeah you still have that name] I told you already via skype, but i really like your last development Rp's PT I and PT II. I enjoy seeing a bit more of Mister Garland and realize how deep the pain really goes. He is sick and twisted as much as broken and down on his knees. Awesome. Keep the good work up. PS. No more hurting the Frank [pfft. like it is possible.]

Really blurring the lines of morality and who's the hero and villain in our rivalry between Frank Washington and Robert Garland and makes Badger come across as a sympathetic heel. Badger has legitimate reasons for wanting revenge on Frank Washington while at the same time Frank has turned over a new leaf and isn't the same man he was all those years ago. Badger is doubting himself and questioning his actions while seeing visions of his student before seemingly turning back to his old ways, the very same which lead him to prison. What choice would he make and could he battle his inner demons? Very gripping piece and maybe because I personally know all the history but it really hit home.

Back at the dojo punching his fists bloody raw we see Badger at the dojo he once burned down. Thankfully Badger didn't use the heroin because drugs are bad (mkay?) and he'd be fired from MSW before he could take the needle out of his arm. It may not seem as much given his current mental state but the fact that he didn't give in to his vice was a moral victory and a significant step forward to find himself again. He's really reached the bottom of the barrel again and really carried over what started in Part 1 and brought it full circle. Travis Rech showed a side rarely seen in MSW and showed a lot of compassion and concern for his friend (not that he hasn't all the years they were together but in more recent times Garland has been a cash cow for a man who was once in poverty, I still remember Rech as Bobo!). Class A character development in my honest view and it adds a ton of substance to push the rivalry and gives us an inner look at Robert Garland the man. Fun as always working with you and we'll knock this rivalry out of the park!

Thanks very much guys, I really appreciate it. I kind of went overboard this week and also just finished my latest promo for US#9. The Word On The Street - msw.freeforums.net/thread/657/word-on-streetKicked some serious writers block in the ass here. I even scrapped almost two complete promos before going for this idea. It was really hard to talk about this match without putting some sort of negative slant from Garland's perspective. With what Garland was going through in the dev promos, I figured I would try and take the interviewing part away from him this time and to a group of general audience members. There are a few good jokes in here and a lot of hype combined with a new style that I've been experimenting with in the aforementioned dev promos. I would love to hear some opinions and as always I appreciate them all, good and bad. Also, a lot of the bad grammar is intentional. The reason was to add some extra character to a lot of these interviewees. |
