The scene opens backstage at APW Survive and Conquer. This is APW's first show since October. Contracted wrestler, Branden Harvey, is drawing his number for the match.
"23," says Harvey, excited for the prospect of entering the match late.
Behind him, Doug E. Fresh waits to draw his number.
"It doesn't matter what number you drew," exclaims Fresh. "I'm going to win Survive and Conquer."
"We'll see about that," responds Harvey, before walking away. Suddenly, there is an announcement over the loudspeaker.
"President Jeff has requested an all staff meeting in the locker room. I repeat, President Jeff has requested an all staff meeting in the locker room."
Harvey heads to the locker room and arrives there, along with the rest of the APW staff. President Jeff isn't there yet. APW waits for him for what seems like hours, but is really only a few minutes. Finally, President Jeff arrives. He steps on a bench and begins to speak to his employees.
"I'm sure you've all been wondering why I canceled all the shows between October and January," Jeff began. "I'm here to tell you why, as well as give you an update on the future of APW."
Jeff pauses before starting again.
"APW is my baby. I created APW in 2008 because I wanted a fed people could count on to always be there. And APW has, in fact, always been there. APW has been around for six years with no signs of closing down until recently. APW has been dealing with a lot of crap lately. Trevor Blackwell tried to put APW out of business a while back with the formation of the IWC. I thought Blackwell had been defeated. I bought the IWC and, after running it as its own thing for a while, I absorbed it into APW, creating Asylum, APW's second brand."
Jeff paused dramtically, waiting for his staff to process what he was saying before continuing.
"But Trevor Blackwell was not defeated. He got sponsors and bought majority stock in almost every network in the United States. We were pulled off the USA Network and the Food Network. I've spent the last several months shopping us to other networks, to no avail. Nobody wants to put APW on their network. I tried talking to Trevor Blackwell, also to no avail. He believes he has won and will gladly see APW go out of business."
Jeff gulps. This next part is hard for him to say.
"I regret to inform you that Trevor Blackwell has won. He was right. APW can't survive on pay-per-view alone. So I've made a decision regarding my child. We will have one more pay-per-view after this one. In March, we will have Rasslemania X. That will be APW's final show and I plan to send APW off in style. I release you all from your contracts and you're not obligated to appear at Rasslemania. But it would be greatly appreciated. But, for now, you can start looking for other work."
Branden Harvey's jaw dropped at the announcement. He decided to appear at Rasslemania. APW had done too much for him to leave them high and dry. But what about work? Was Branden Harvey going to find work outside of APW?
