Brief Character Biography: Tommy’s story isn’t the dramatic tale of woe that many people seem to have. Much the contrary, Tommy’s story is borderline average. Growing up in eastern North Carolina in a perfectly normal home, Tommy was a strong athlete most of his life. Baseball, Football and Basketball were his sports of choice.
After high school Tommy attended Eastern Carolina University in Greenville North Carolina and simultaneously began training for professional wrestling in Jacksonville North Carolina under former WCW mid-carder The Maestro (now simply known as “The Stro”. The schedule and lengthy travel wore on Tommy quickly and with less than a full semester under his belt, Tommy elected to conclude his collegiate career at ECU and put all of his focus on his pro wrestling training.
Shortly there after Tommy began working the local mid atlantic area Independents and through that ended up making his way to the American Wrestling Coalition. The AWC –A collection of top indies spread around the country- proved fruitful as it significantly increased Tommy’s exposure and amount of bookings. Tommy’s time in the AWC led to bookings in Japan and eventually getting noticed by the ICWA.
In 2011 Tommy debuted in the ICWA as a member of King Slender’s stable “All The King’s Men”. Originally hired to enhance Slender, Slender had an early exit from the promotion leaving Tommy’s status in question. However, the ICWA kept Tommy on and after a standout program with initial rival Simon Glass, Tommy’s career took off. By 2012 Tommy Bennett became ICWA World Heavyweight champion and a household name. Since that time he’s main evented all over the world and served as PWT’s last World Heavyweight Champion.
Now Tommy brings his experience and main event level name to MSW as he continues to take Independent bookings and overseas tours in absence of any current mainstream mega power promotion in the United States.
Allies: TBD
Enemies: TBD... Oh, and Christian Michaels... Because eff that guy.
Favorite Match Types: Off Camera: As a worker Tommy enjoys any match he can tell a great story in and showcase his athleticism and story telling skills.
On Camera: Tommy’s a cheater. Even when Tommy works face he still tends to cheat a bit, he just waits to be provoked. As such, Tommy enjoys the standard one on one match with full rules and regulations intact. That way he can utilize his experience as an expert cheater while still receiving protections from the very rules he’s learned to get around so well.
Least Favorite Match Types: Off Camera: Tommy’s a team player to a point. However, over the years and after spending some time under the learning tree of some folks who had serious attitudes, Tommy’s also gotten to the point where he can be a real pain in the ass if he doesn’t want to do something. Bookers may encounter this issue if they attempt to book Tommy in a gimmick match for no other reason than to have a gimmick match. Tommy will work virtually any match under the son so long as it has a purpose and makes sense to the angle in progress. He’ll do business and lay down if he thinks it makes sense too. But if Tommy doesn’t think it makes sense he’ll say so. You may still get him to do what you want because despite his onscreen character being wealthy the worker behind the character still has bills to pay. But that doesn’t mean he won’t be a big ol’ dick about it. As such, some bookers think Tommy’s a huge pain in the ass, other bookers haven’t had any issues with him. All depends on how he meshes with your booking style.
On Camera: Matches with no rules. You can’t cheat if there’s no rules to break.
Moveset Information
Wrestling Style: Technical/Dirty/Entertainer
Trademark Moves:
- Rolling Knee Drop
- Corner Chops
- Various Cheating (Especially likes to unwrap his wrist tape or utilize the tag rope to choke an adversary. Also enjoys putting the shin across the throat while down on one knee arguing with the ref about the count).
- Hurricanrana W/Mounted punches
.
Finishing Moves:
- Hollywood Star Crush – Slingshot Brainbuster (Lifts opponent up for a vertical suplex, drops the opponent forward so their legs hit the top rope and then snaps back with the brainbuster and an instant float over cover like you’d see at the end of a Jackhammer.)
- S.T.F.U.C.M (Stole This From Ur Christian Michaels) – Superkick. Usually out of no where but occasionally with the corner build up ala Shawn Michaels. Usually though if he has the time for the build up and isn’t in a desperation situation he’ll just go to the Hollywood Star Crush as long as the opponent isn’t a gazillion pounds)
Figure Four Leg Lock – Tommy started using the figure four as a finisher during a tour of Japan. He was coming to find that people had gotten wise to his strategy of working the head and neck to soften an opponent up for the Hollywood Star Crush so he began utilizing more leg and knee attacks and utilizing the Figure Four for submission and inadvertent pinfall victories. He hasn’t finished a lot of matches with the figure four but he does keep it in his arsenal to add diversity to his attack and to have a secondary plan for victory if an opponent begins guarding their neck and head too well.
