RP Title:// The first step (US26-1)
OOC:// Well here's one...
-------
All of a sudden there was this calming sensation coming over Duke Andrews when it came to coming to work in Missouri State Wrestling. True, he was brought in by Danny Stevenson, and Drew had a hand in bringing him to the company, but it was the recent signings that made coming to work that much more enjoyable. For years Duke spent his life in North Carolina, and then traveling with the ICWA. Guys like Christian Michaels and Javen, Drew Stevenson, Scotty Addams, Tommy Bennett…and here they were. Coming to Missouri…making it suddenly the place to be.
Sitting down in a chair in the corner of a gym, Duke wiped the sweat from his face. Rocking a light grey t-shirt, sleeves ripped off with the Under Armour fish logo in red, a pair of black athletic shorts, and a black ball cap on backwards.
“I just can’t believe ol’ Tommy Bennett came back to the states. But hell, it wasn’t like you were going to be gone long. I told you when you left you’d come back. And…I’m still banking on the fact that you and I will be squaring off for the first time sooner rather than later.”
A simple shrug came from Tommy as he sat a couple seats down from Duke. His hair pulled back, barely sweating.
“Maybe, some day it will happen. But we just need to see how the portray me moving forward.”
A nod of the head from Duke as he ran his hand through his beard, growing longer over the past few weeks. Presumably going on strike from seeing a razor, or a beard trimmer.
“Either way…I think it’ll happen and when it does, I know that we will be blowing the roof off the place.”
“You sound like Stevenson.”
A laugh from the two of them briefly.
“That’s what happens when you travel with him over and over. That shit sticks in your head and you will never get rid of it. Ever”
“That’s the stuff I’ve avoided. I’d rather ride with Burt or the McMillions.”
“Yeah, I’ll pass on riding with Javen. Dude never shuts his trap. But speaking of that, I’ve got a promo I need to finally cut. Or you know, the boss won’t appreciate me just showing up to collect a check.”
Duke stands up and pats Tommy on the back before moving towards the other portion of the gym.
The backdrop was the plain, old, nasty brick wall. Some old pictures of people that had made their way from this gym to the big time, in whatever it was. Nothing that had pertained to Duke or to MSW for that matter. Since he couldn’t work out at the Emerald Academy since it was ‘kept off limits under lock and key’ by some jackass attorney and the ‘boss man’.
“Last week I came out and spoke nothing but the truth. Nothing but how I felt and how I was ready to just shed the persona and come at people like Duke Andrews can. Nikki found it to be something that he admired, and after a match that lived up to everything it was promised and then some…And now we get to step into the ring and create a whole new level of magic.”
Duke pauses to clear his throat.
“Nikki isn’t the guy he spent his whole life trying to portray in the ring. Nikki found his higher calling in Sister Catherine. So be it. That isn’t for me to judge. I just know that Nikki isn’t one of my boys. So as much as we may be on the same page, I know that I’m going to be keeping an eye out to make sure he stays course and keeps his focus on what’s ahead of us. This isn’t my choice; this isn’t my own doing. This is a match I’m doing because I’m told I have to. But, under these circumstances, I know that Nikki and I can coexist in that ring to beat Matt Ward and Chris Orton.”
Duke scoffs briefly.
“Now I’m not the guy that’ll bury a match, because hell I know better. I know I’m here to sell those tickets”
Duke gives a mere fist pump and winks.
“But Matt and I have been around the block a few times. Everywhere I go, he seems to have been there or shows up not that far after. Hell I’ve seen him having to leave right after a match without getting paid to get to another show. So kudos on that. And I know he’s one hell of a worker. He understands that it takes hard work, but Matt, I know you know that you have NEVER beaten me. You have never come close to putting my shoulders on the mat. So let’s just cut to the point, you and your tag team partner aren’t really the ones that should be playing the favorite in this match.”
Duke runs his hand over his beard.
“And this isn’t to be cocky, this isn’t to be brash. This is just stating the facts. Nikki and I will stand in the same corner for one night. And we will come out on top. And after that, who knows what’s in the cards. I’ve got my eyes set on something else. But as we sit right here right now…the first step is Unstoppable 26. Matt, Chris, that means you’re the first step. The first step in achieving perfection once again.”
Scene fades to black.
