With only one week left until Back to Basics, competitors across the MSW have been spotted in and around Kansas City. Among them is Chris Williams, who has since moved into an apartment in downtown Kansas City. The camera is situated in a bird’s-eye view of the city, tracking all of the hustle and bustle of the cars, pedestrians, and animals throughout. As the camera begins zooming in toward the sidewalk, we see Chris Williams strolling through downtown. With him today, is Missouri State Wrestling Interviewer, Charles Matias. With all of Chris’ opponents boldly claiming that they will be the ones walking out of Back to Basics as the Pure15 champion, Charles thought it was a good idea to hear what else Chris had to say. The two continue walking up the semi-busy downtown district, chatting as they go.
Charles Matias:
Chris, thanks again for talking with me today about your upcoming match.
Chris Williams:
Didn’t have much of a choice, management seems to think I’m not giving this match one hundred percent of my focus….
Charles Matias:
What do you mean by that?
Chris Williams:
Well, I was supposed to have recorded a statement of my thoughts around the match a few days ago. Drew Stevenson asked all competitors to contribute something to promote our match for the fed. As far as they are concerned, I am the only one who hasn’t said anything. Let them think what they want, but I had completely finished my entire video piece, and simply forgot to upload it. Hell, even wasted my entire ice cream in the middle of it! But that’s neither here nor there, it won’t change what happens in the ring. So go ahead Charles, we’re here now, let’s do this…
Charles Matias:
Sounds good, Chris, let’s get to it then. Well, the first thing I think the fans would love to know is this: What do you think of the Pure15 championship?
Chris flashes a grin on his face, knowing he’s about to answer every single question for the second time, but there isn’t much he can do about it now….
Chris Williams
Ah man, what do I think of the Pure15 championship…. In short Charles, it’s everything that wrestling should be. Nowadays, you can’t go a full match without some ridiculous spot, some weapon shot, the works. That’s not wrestling, it’s a train wreck. Don’t get me wrong, I love me a good train wreck every now and then. Hell, , I’ve even participated in my fair share of them. But Pure15 is different. Missouri State Wrestling stepped up and we now have a division that will bring back some old-school, traditional wrestling.
Charles Matias:
It’s definitely something to look forward to. But now the first ever Pure 15 match will be a fatal four-way, which has to change things in some way for you, right?
Chris Williams:
No, not really. There’s no way for it to really ever change. Still a match going on, still one goal – walk out as champion. More opponents, more opportunities to get a victory. And let’s have a quick chat about my opponents. The guy who has been the most vocal about this match, Matt Ward, has definitely caused a stir in MSW since he came on to the scene.
Honestly, I don’t really know why Matt has this major issue with me, but there definitely seems to be something there. Coming out, calling me a “prick” and whatnot, just makes no sense. I’ve got no problem with him, I actually admire his style in the ring quite a bit. He’s an uncontrolled ball of rage in the ring, and he’s caused a ton of mayhem because of it. But Matt somehow seems to think that because I offered him a piece of advice in his personal life, that I’m some sort of idiot asshole. I’ve been there, I’ve been where he is right now. I love that he comes out and tries to tell me that I have no clue where he’s been or what he’s went through. My issue is that I never talked about where he’s BEEN, I’m simply talking about where he IS. Yet Matt will toss away my advice because he doesn’t see me going through the same shit he currently is? Newsflash, Ward: I learn from my past mistakes. I’ve made plenty, and just because I’m not in his shoes right now doesn’t mean I haven’t fucking been there. He doesn’t know me from the next guy on the street, yet casts me aside with one glance, mere seconds of judgment. That is a huge mistake, and he will find out exactly why come Back to Basics.
Charles Matias:
You sound pretty confident of that, but as you said, you haven’t been in the ring together… what do you expect?
Chris Williams:
Like I said, I have studied his style. I definitely enjoy watching his matches, they are the train wrecks that I was talking about earlier. He is a human wrecking ball, just destroying what is in his path. But the problem is that it hasn’t translated into many wins. Hell, he hasn’t even been in a match in nearly two months because of it! I don’t know how you can go from not even being in the ring a few months straight, to suddenly getting a title shot. No, Matt isn’t the one I’m truly worried about in this match. I’m hoping he cause as much mayhem and destruction as he can, and I’ll follow in behind and get the win.
Charles Matias:
So in your mind Chris, who is the favorite in this match?
Chris Williams:
Well, in my own mind, I’m certainly the favorite. If I didn’t believe that I could win this title, that I could compete in the MSW and make a name for myself, then I wouldn’t be here. I have to think I can win if I’m even going to stand a chance. But I really believe that I’m the dark horse in this match, that I can take this belt and stamp my place into the history books. Another of my opponents, Ian Windermear, has been on the receiving end of some brutal losses as well. He hasn’t notched a victory in a long time, and I don’t expect him to start at Back to Basics. Ian is a man who has earned my respect already, as we’ve had a couple of exchanges over Twitter, and he seems to be much less of a dick lately. Who knows, could be somebody I can rely on in the future. My guess is that he’ll be way too occupied with trying to beat the hell out of Bradyn Saint to even notice me in this match. And that’s totally alright by me.
Charles Matias:
Speaking of which, what role do you think Saint will end up playing? What do you think of Bradyn Saint?
Chris Williams:
I don’t know what to think of him, honestly. Part of me is impressed as all hell by the skill that this 21 year old kid has, the skill that has him on the cusp of greatness. But on the other hand… that kid is a goddamn punk. I mean really, do you hear the crap coming out of his mouth? All the skill in the world, and half a brain to go with it. The kid thinks he’s simply the greatest human being to grace this earth, let alone the MSW wrestling ring. Saint is all ego, 24/7. To think he’s above MSW, that he’s above this match and this trophy… then why is he here? Do yourself a favor, Saint. Take this match VERY seriously, and do it quick. Because he’s got a few options: One, you can continue to spout your bullshit about being the perfect human, continue saying you’ve never made a mistake in your entire life, and watch as one of us surprises the hell out of you and takes this Pure 15 trophy home. Or… you can grow the hell up and realize you’ve been acting like an entitled child since you got here, and then be a part of what is sure to be the show-stealer at Back to Basics. Because win, lose, or draw… THAT’S the Saint I want to go to war with. The Bradyn Saint that not only has all the skill in the world, but the right mindset to go with it.
Charles Matias:
Alright Chris, got time for one more question?
Chris Williams:
Actually I don’t. We’re here. Later, Chuckie!
Chris leaves Matias in the dust as he opens the door to a local gym just outside of the downtown district. The camera fades as Matias stands there, broken hearted.
